The three ad-cost metrics, and what each reveals
CPM, CPC and CPL measure the cost of advertising at three different stages of the funnel, and reading them together tells you where a campaign is strong and where it leaks. CPM (cost per mille) is what you pay for a thousand impressions — the price of reach. CPC (cost per click) is what you pay for each click — the price of interest. CPL (cost per lead) is what you pay for each lead — the price of intent.
This calculator computes all three from your spend, impressions, clicks and leads. Together they diagnose the funnel: a low CPM but high CPC means your creative earns cheap reach but few clicks — a creative or targeting problem. A low CPC but high CPL means clicks are cheap but the landing page isn't converting — a page or offer problem. Isolating the weak stage is far more useful than staring at total spend.
These metrics also let you compare platforms and campaigns fairly. CPMs vary hugely across channels and audiences; a premium CPM can still deliver the lowest CPL if the audience is right. So judge each level in context and against your own benchmarks, and always trace the numbers down to cost per lead or cost per acquisition, where the money actually matters.
TriMediaX optimises every layer of the funnel — creative to lower CPC, targeting to control CPM, and landing pages to bring down CPL — so your spend converts efficiently end to end. Check your costs here, then let us tighten them.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate CPM?+
Divide total spend by impressions, then multiply by 1,000. Spending 500 for 200,000 impressions is a CPM of 2.50.
How do I calculate CPC and CPL?+
CPC is spend divided by clicks; CPL is spend divided by leads. 500 spend and 400 clicks is a 1.25 CPC; 20 leads from that spend is a 25 CPL.
Which metric matters most?+
CPL (or cost per acquisition) is closest to the money, but reading CPM and CPC alongside it shows where in the funnel a campaign is winning or leaking.
Why is my CPC low but CPL high?+
Clicks are cheap but the landing page or offer isn't converting them. The fix is usually the page, the message match, or the offer — not the ads.
Can TriMediaX lower these costs?+
Yes. We improve creative, targeting and landing pages to bring down CPC and CPL while keeping reach efficient, optimising the whole funnel.
